WASHINGTON -- Michael Vick should not be allowed to play in the National Football League again, most professional football fans said in a poll that underscored how far the celebrity quarterback's star has fallen.
In addition, an overwhelming majority of fans want him to serve prison time now that he has pleaded guilty to a federal dogfighting charge, according to the Gallup Poll released Wednesday. Few would want to him to play for their favorite team should he return to the sport.
The NFL indefinitely suspended the Atlanta Falcons star after he filed a written plea agreement in court on Friday. In a public apology Monday, he said he now rejected dogfighting and had not been honest about the episode.
The poll was conducted after widespread news reports that he would plead guilty in the case.
According to the survey, 58 percent said he should not be allowed to play in the NFL anymore. Only 22 percent said they would want the team they root for to try to acquire him should he return.
In addition, 35 percent said they believe he should serve a long prison sentence, 51 percent said they favored a short one, and 12 percent said they believe he should not serve any time.
Vick's sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 10. The federal sentencing guideline range is projected at a year to 18 months, but the judge can impose up to a maximum of five years.
The survey involved telephone interviews with 1,001 adults from Aug. 23 to 26. The overall margin of sampling error was plus or minus four percentage points. The organization did not immediately provide the margin of sampling error for the 520 pro football fans questioned.

Johnson said after Sunday’s workout that he intends to play in Thursday’s preseason finale against St. Louis at the Edward Jones Dome. "If it was up to me, I'd play the whole game," Johnson said. "But they're not going to let that happen." The more likely scenario, coach Herm Edwards hinted, is that Johnson will only be in for a few series. "It will be real fast," Edwards said. "Don't blink."
Fantasy Insight:
A lot of people think that Johnson's run as an elite running back is over but not us. He put up solid numbers last with Damon Huard as the quarterback. We know that there are concerns about the line but coach Herman Edwards has always found a way to run the ball effectively.

Jackson went down hard after a collision with another player during a 2-minute drill, and after taking a few more snaps in a non-contact 7-on-7 drill was unable to finish practice. Jackson, according to other players, suffered a blow to the head that most thought wasn't serious.
Fantasy Insight:
With Jackson out, the only healthy running backs were veteran Noah Herron, rookie free agent Corey White and seventh-round pick DeShawn Wynn, who was making his first appearance in practice after missing 18 days with a strained right thigh muscle. Veteran Vernand Morency still hasn't practiced since hurting his knee the first day of camp and is a question mark for the start of the regular season.

Galloway is the primary receiver, the undisputed No. 1. But, coach Jon Gruden said, no player has stood out enough to win the other starting job. Stovall jumped out to the lead in training camp but faded in games. David Boston moved ahead of Stovall on the depth chart before being charged with DUI on Thursday. Ike Hilliard has been steady. Michael Clayton has been stealthy. Heading into the final preseason game, Gruden still is waiting to name the winner. "I don't know if stepping up is a good word," Gruden said. "I don't know if we have a clear-cut answer right now, but we do have good football players. If it's done by committee, as long as it gets done, I'll be happy."
Fantasy Insight:
Galloway makes a nice 3rd receiver on most fantasy teams since he should get 10 to 12 balls throw his way every game but we recommend that you avoid every other receiver, including Stovall.

Turner suffered a high ankle sprain in the second quarter of the Chargers' third exhibition game Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. The opinion yesterday was that the injury was not major. Turner could be questionable up to the Sept. 9 season opener, but Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith sounded optimistic. Of course, Smith was, like Norv Turner, cool about the whole thing. "You always get the initial prognosis," Smith said. "It means nothing to me for two days. (Not until) 48 hours later (do) you get into reality " what are we dealing with? Nothing I can do about it anyway. As long as it's not really bad, but we won't know for two days."
Fantasy Insight:
While Tomlinson led the league with 1,815 yards rushing and set an NFL record with 31 touchdowns, Turner still carried 80 times for 502 yards. No other team had one back carry 300 times and another 80 times.

Any good fantasy football enthusiast will tell you the key to winning on the fantasy level is a successful draft.
And to pull off a successful draft, you must be a bit of a prognosticator when it comes to evaluating talent. In other words, you must have a certain "feel" for which players are on the rise and which are on the decline.
Certainly age is a key factor in making these determinations, but there are many other signs to look for that may indicate an upswing or downswing as compared to prior year's performances. Something as simple as being put into a new system, whether it be by switching teams or a change in coaching staff, can do wonders for a player's career.
Another scenario to keep an eye out for is the young player that simply has "emerging superstar" written all over him. And there's always the case of players simply coming into their own after gaining experience. Picking those guys, however, can sometimes be more of an art than a science.
